External 2.5inch drives - portable drives
External 2.5inch drives - portable drives.
External 2.5" drives are portable drives that connects to a laptop, PC, Multimedia TV or media player through a USB or thunderbolt port.
External 2.5" drives are powered through the connection port, and doesn't require an additional external power.
Even though external 2.5" drives are powered through the connection ports, USB2.0 ports may not supply sufficient power to power the drive. Additional USB power may be required, either from an additional USB port or through an external USB power device.
A 2.5-inch SATA hard drive measures 2.7 inches wide, 0.37 inch tall, and 3.96 inches long (6.858 cm wide, 0.9398cm high, 10.0584cm long). The enclosure forms the bulk of the product's size as it adds a few cm extra on all sides.
What is Militarily drop test?
- Tested in a non-powered state
- Dropped several times
- Dropped from a specified height
- Dropped from all corner, sides and faces
- Tested working after the test
Please handle drives with care, even if they meet military drop test standard. Drives are very likely to get damaged, and data may become corrupt, if they are dropped when powered.
Several drives are military drop tested for added reliability. This does not make the drive indestructible or in-corruptible, it however confirms that the drive has been tested in a lab environment to comply with military specifications. The drive continues to work after it has been dropped several times from a specified height in a non-operating state.
Based on MIL-STD-810G 516.6-Transit Drop Test standards, portable hard drives fall 26 times from a height of 1.22 m from all corners, faces and sides. Once the portable hard drive works properly after dropping, it meets U.S. military drop-test standards. What is a rugged drive?
- Water resistant
- Drop resistant
- Shock resistant
- Dust proof
Please handle drives with care, even if they are rugged drives. Drives are very likely to get damaged, and data may become corrupt, if they are dropped when powered.
Water resistance tests do not guarantee absolute water-proofing. Avoid wet areas and protect your drives when in use.
A rugged drive has additional layers of protection in additional to drop resistance. They may have enhanced shock absorbing material, and are usually water and dust resistant.
